Drop down ye heavens – Advent Sunday

Advent CandleAll Saints Fulham Choir will be singing a special Advent Carol Service at 6pm on Sunday 30 November at All Saints Church Fulham.

The service will begin with the Choir singing Drop down, ye heavens, from above by prolific British composer Judith Weir (1954- ).

Weir is currently Master of the Queen’s Music, a royal appointment that is the musical equivalent of the Poet Laureate position. Past holders include Edward Elgar, Walford Davies and Peter Maxwell Davies. She will be the Associate Composer to the BBC Singers in 2015.

Drop down ye heavens was written in 1984 and the Choir of Trinity College Cambridge debuted the work at their Advent Carol Service that year.

Drop down ye heavens from above,
And let the skies pour down righteousness.
Comfort ye, comfort ye, my people;
My salvation shall not tarry.
I have blotted out as a thick cloud thy transgressions.
Fear not, for I will save thee;
For I am the Lord thy God,
The holy one of Israel, thy redeemer.
Drop down ye heavens from above,
And let the skies pour down righteousness.

The video is Benjamin Nicholas and the Choir of Merton College, Oxford.
