The musical centrepiece of All Saints Fulham Choir’s year is the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday 15 December at 6pm. One of the anthems that the Choir will sing is a new version of the carol In the Bleak Midwinter.

The lyrics were written by the Victorian poet Christina Rosetti. The classic version was set to music by Gustav Holst and was included in the English Hymnal in 1905.

A version by Harold Darke written in 1911 and was voted best carol in a recent poll of some of the world’s leading choirmasters and choral experts.

This new version was composed by the British composer Richard Allain (1965- ). Allain writes a wide variety of music, including music theatre, sacred choral music and works for children. He is a composer in association to the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.
