All Saints Fulham Choir will be singing a special Eucharist on Wednesday 13 February – Ash Wednesday – at 8pm at All Saints Church Fulham.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter.
During the service, worshippers will be marked with the sign of the cross in ashes on their forehead. The ashes are made from burning palm crosses from last year.
During the ashing, the Choir will sing Miserere mei by Italian composer Gregorio Allegri (1582-1652). The work is for two choirs, one of five voices and one of four voices and was composed around 1638 while Allegri was a member of the Sistine Chapel choir. The text used is Psalm 51.
