Epiphany Carol Service: There Shall a Star from Jacob Come Forth

On Sunday 13 January, All Saints Church Fulham will hold an Epiphany Carol Service to celebrate the arrival of the wise men to visit the infant Jesus.

The Choir will sing several pieces including There Shall a Star from Jacob Come Forth by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847).

The piece is from an oratorio entitled Christus which Mendelssohn began in 1846.

The work was never finished as he sadly passed away before he could complete it. It was going to be similar to his other large scale oratorios Elijah and St Paul.

All that is left of Christus are a tenor recitative about the birth of Jesus, a 3-part male chorus and the SATB chorus.

The video is a the choir of St Paul’s Cathedral performing Christus.
