Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter Sunday. The Church celebrates the gift of the Holy Spirit and so Pentecost is regarded as the birthday of the Church.
To celebrate, the Choir will be singing the Truro Eucharist by English composer David Briggs.
He made his debut at the BBC Proms on 2010 as part of “Bach Day”. Briggs is currently based in Massachusetts, USA but is Organist Emeritus at Gloucester and gives regular masterclasses in the UK.
In the video below, Robert Sharpe, Organist and Director of Music, leads the Choir of Truro Cathedral, and Organist Christopher Gray in a performance of the Truro Eucharist.
Intriguingly, the composer himself describes the last movement as
“a lush, accompanied 8-part setting maybe rather like Richard Strauss on vacation in Paris!”
