A Charge of Curates: Part 2

We shall be singing a classic Thomas Tallis (1505-1585) anthem – If Ye Love Me at the ordination service for the 8 current curates of the Kensington Diocese on Sunday 26th June at 4pm. The words of the anthem are taken from the Gospel of John 14: 15-16.

If ye love me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may bide with you for ever; e’en the spir’t of truth.

BBC Radio 3 anointed Tallis as their Composer of the Week in September 2010 and produced an excellent documentary about him.

The legendary comedian Spike Milligan wrote this clerihew or poem about the Tudor composer.

Thomas Tallis
Bore no man any malice
Save an organist named Ken
Who played his music rather badly now and then.
